UI Designer & IT Research Intern
UI design and IT research for a hospital management system for dental clinics, designed to support 500+ concurrent users.
How I got here
A summer internship in my third year. I chose it because it combined UI design, which I had been teaching, with IT research on how real systems get specified.
The work
I ran four rounds of interviews with dental clinic staff to understand how a visit actually flows: who checks the patient in, who updates the chart, who handles payment, and where things get stuck.
I designed the interface and wireframes, and worked with business analysts to turn the research into functional requirements across five modules.
- Patient registration
- Scheduling
- OPD treatment
- Financial management
- Inventory
What I learned
Clinic software is used under time pressure. The best screen was usually the one with fewer choices, not more features.
What it led to
Writing requirements taught me to turn what users say into what developers can build. I use that every week now.
