Project Intern
My first internship. Inside SCG’s digital office, our team built HandRehab, a haptic glove for stroke rehabilitation that was piloted in 3+ hospitals.
How I got here
In my first year I applied to the WEDO Young Talent Program with what I had: student hackathon projects and a lot of curiosity. No work experience.
Tip for students: a small project you actually finished is worth more on an application than a long list of interests.
The work
I did field research with therapists and patients, then prototyped how the glove’s hardware and the software that tracks progress fit together.
We presented the results to SCG’s innovation board at the end of the program.
What I learned
Designing for patients means designing for the therapist too. If it does not fit a 30-minute session, it does not get used.
What it led to
My first time building for real users in real hospitals. I found out I liked the space between people and technology, which led me to teach UX the same year.
